Japanese Pickling Eggplant (Solanum melongena)
Japanese Pickling Eggplant (Solanum melongena): traditional Japanese eggplant, undoubtedly one of the best we have tasted and grown. The fruit is about 40 cm long, and 4 cm diameter, the pulp is firm and sweet. The skin displays a beautiful bright purple, particularly fine and shiny.
The taste is a perfect bittersweet balance, so it is perfect for a wide arrange of recipes, from pasta sauce to caponata.
Japan has many extraordinary varieties because of the the extreme care taken when selecting ecotypes with great organoleptic qualities, this is the reason why the country is placed on the top of world cuisine.
Like all eggplants, the sowing temperature must be minded, around 24 ° C; while in the vegetative phase it does not really suffer from temperature drops. The plant is not overly productive but we still recommend applying support due to the size of the fruits. It keeps well after harvest.
