King Umberto Tomato (Lycopersicon Lycopersicon)

1,90 €Precio
  • King Umberto tomato (Lycopersicon Lycopersicum), also known as RE FIASCONE: This tomato is named after Umberto I of Savoy, it was a tribute to him after his first visit to Naples as King of Italy, in 1878. This variety was chosen because it represented excellence, and it was known as the king of tomatoes. Locally, it was also called "Fiascone". The Re Umberto tomato is also famous because  when it was crossed with another variety it created the San Marzano which dissappeared in the 90's because of a virus; this means the Fiascone is one of the last remaining real Neapoletan tomatoes (the San Marzano varieties found in the present are a new selection).

The Re Umberto has been handed down from one generation to the next since the beginning of the 20th century.

The plant is determined, very productive, the berries have an intense flavour and are suitable for sauces and preserves, they are also very fragrant. It is easy to grow and will give you great satisfaction, as well as the possibility of safeguarding an authentic Italian excellence.
