Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Chili Pepper (Capsicum chinense)
Trinidad Moriga Scorpion Chili Pepper (Capsicum chinense): we selected this variety from the long list of extremely hot chili peppers because along with the Habanero (not the Red Savina) it is one of the few that were found and not selected. It held the title of the hottest in the world for a while, then it was awarded second place, but it never really made it into the Guinness rankings, which instead did the Trinidad Scorpion Butch Taylor selected by Zydeco Farm; which probably has a lower spice peak but it is in overall spicier (it is the overall what counts). It is a little over a million SHU, its scent is nice and fruity; it is round and doesn’t have a peak.
It germinates and thrives at stable temperatures, the plant dies with temperatures below 10ºC. As the plant ages spicier fruits can be obtained by allowing it to go through the winter and favour lignification.
