Chantenay Carrot (Daucus carota)

Chantenay Carrot (Daucus carota): this old variety dates from 1929. It is short and triangular, has a  pale orange tap root,  and red heart; it is about 10 – 12 cm long and 5 -7cm in diameter.

It has lots of positive qualities that led it throughout time, its delicious flavour that makes it very popular in gourmet cuisine, its resistance to cold that probably makes her the most resistant of the species, and last but not least, its reduced length, that allows for it to be cultivated in soils that are only superficially worked or not suitable for normal carrots.
