Red Ceriolo from Verona (Cichorium intybus)
Red Ceriolo from Verona (Cichorium intybus): beautiful variety of "peasant chicory" (traditional). It is very easy to grow, rustic, and doesn't require particular fertilization; it germinates even at high temperatures and can withstand intense cold.
When the plant is formed, it takes the appearance of a rose in both, shape and colour, hence, it is also ornamental. It tastes a lot like Belgian Endive or Radicchio.
It can be sown late into the summer and harvested when the size allows it, although it is usually expected in the spring, when the plant is well formed. It doesn't have much irrigatioin needs, it actually fears stagnation.
A beautiful, sustainable, delicious, traditional variety.
