Carolina Cross 180 Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus)
Carolina Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus): we have granted ourselves a license, this is certainly not a sustainable variety, it needs water and fertile soil, numerous treatments, but it is of great botanical interest, and we like it. Watermelon that exceeds 100 kg, it is edible but certainly not grown for the taste. A little game in the garden, a challenge to refine cultivation techniques, and why not, attract attention towards more sustainable themes.
It should be cultivated in well-worked and fertilized soil, with irrigation suitable for the size of the species. Use 2x2 mt for planting, leave one fruit per plant if you aim for the maximum size, then trim to optimize growth, reduce irrigation in the days before harvest, when the fruit is ripe.
