Royal Golden Watermellon (Citrullus lanatus)
Royal Golden Watermellon (Citrullus lanatus): beautiful golden skinned variety. The fruits, slightly ribbed, almost like a pumpkin, reach 11 kg and when rip they become bright yellow, almost golden. The red pulp is sweet, crunchy and contains few seeds. Easy to grow because being early it is the first watermelon to ripen in the garden, hence requiring less care.
Attention, even if the leaves, like the fruits, turn yellow, do not worry, it’s normal, as well as the seeds which are white.
This variety was selected in Texas around the 1960’s, while in Europe it is quite rare.
