Doux D'Espagne Pepper (Capsicum annuum)
Doux D’Espagne Pepper (Capsicum annuum): Ancient variety also called Giant from Spain, it is one of the largest known. It was imported from either Algeria or Valencia (there is no certainty) to Paris, where it’s been very popular until now, in the second half of the 19th century. The fruits get to be 25 cm long, they are sweet, fleshy, and display a beautiful red colour when fully ripe; they are very fragrant and incredibly tasty. They are great in many ways, stuffed, fried, or in the oven.
The plant is rustic, it tolerates a wide range of temperatures but it must be sown when the temperature of the soil is at least 15ºC. It is suitable for forcing in a protected environment. Ready in 75 to 90 days from transplant, it depends on the seasonal temperature trend.
