Purple-Striped Hopi Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris)
Purple-Striped Hopi Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris): traditional bean from the “People of Peace”, the indigenous Hopi Amerindians. The “Maawiw’ngwu” is a violet bean of climbing habit, shaped as a crescent moon, it has black stripes; The colours are occassionally darker.
The plant is very productive, particularly strong, it is easy to cultivate, and gives an excellent production. It is not particularly demanding in terms of soil. It tolerates high temperatures very well, even during fruit setting, suitable for very hot climates.
