Seed Saving: Beginner
Macedonian Giant Sunflower (Helianthus annuus)
Macedonian Giant Sunflower (Helianthus annuus): Original from North America, arrived in Russia in the 17th century thanks to Tsar Peter the Great, where an important diversification center was created, that exported also to the neighboring countries of Eastern Europe . This variety comes from Moldova but we have been growing it successfully for years.
It has a great size, the flower reaches 35-40 cm in diameter, and the plant has a stem that exceeds 7 cm in diameter, and 3.5 – 4 mt in height.
While it is actually a hardy and undemanding variety, proper preventive fertilization and watering will produce an extraordinary specimen.
The seeds are edible, the production is clearly massive. Another important feature is its great honey-producing capacity, which will attract pollinators to your garden. It is a beautiful plant, very easy to grow, and particularly scenic.
