Nagasaki Long Eggplant (Solanum melongena)
Nagasaki Long Eggplant (Solanum melongena): This beauty comes also from the land of the Rising Sun. Japan has a rich biota and there is a special focus on varieties with organoleptic characteristics such as this one.
The Nagasaki has a big size, and an intense black colour. It is not bitter at all, hence can be eaten raw. It is not suitable for recipes that require long cooking times, but it's perfect for frying.
This variety is particularly suited for hot-humid climates which tolerates easily.
The pulp has a velvety consistency and its flavour is similar to hazelnut.
