Pisanello Tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum)

Pisanello Tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum): this variety has flattened shape, strong “ribs” and bright red color.  Taste is sweet and acid at the same time.

It has firm pulp, strong, fruity smell that reaches 200 gm in weight. Its name is clearly given by the province where it is most widespread, however it is found throughout Tuscany.

While the Florentine Costoluto is now very compromised by commercial selections, the Pisanello gathers an ancient heritage.

The plant is indeterminate and on average, productive. It is useful to shade it with other species or with other more heat-tolerant tomatoes.
