San Marzano Tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum): Its name comes from San Marzano city in Sarno, where it was born.
It has an elongated shape, and is particularly suitable for being used in the food processing industry, where it is used to prepare peeled and canned food.
Specifically, it is regarded by many chefs as one of the best tomatoes to make peeled and preserved tomatoes.
The original San Marzano cultivar was destroyed by a virus in 1991, the variety proposed here is the “San Marzano 2” which maintains generic and peculiar characteristics of the oldest variety.
