Seed Saving: intermediate
Tortarello Abruzzese (Cucumis melo)
Tortarello from Abruzzo (Cucumis melo): heirloom melon to be eaten young, as a cucumber. It holds the freshness of a cucumber, plus a hint of swetness, simply amazing!
The rustic plant is very productive, fruits range from 40 to 80 cm.
To be sown in spring, it is ready for consumption in about 40 days from transplanting.
In order to save the seeds it is necessary to wait until it is completely ripe, about 75 days.
It is advisable to save the seeds, as the interest on commercial crops is producing hybrids that could cause the specific characteristics of the variety to disappear.
